“An understanding of your organization’s parts and connections is required to help everything work together.”
― Chris Hutchinson, Ripple: A Field Manual for Leadership that Works
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world”
– Mahatma Gandhi
“Change is the law of life and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”
– John F Kennedy
Building an enterprise is a massive task that needs enormous amount of effort and synergy. Making the enterprise sustainable and relevant to the business context does not happen by default. It requires systematic and well thought-out strategies and actions. There is a need to dip into the wealth of expertise available to make these happen rather than re-inventing the wheel, at a huge cost and waste of time.
BKMS Value Proposition:
The founder BKM was involved in setting up three organizations from scratch in his career. As a key member of the team, he had learnt the details and is able to apply them as needed. Also as a Certified Change Practitioner (from APMG-UK), he can consult and guide on any organizational change initiative and make it successful.
Typical Steps involved:
Organization Development:
BKMS consultants involve the leaders to develop the Vision, Mission, define the culture & values, set organizational collaborative climate. By engaging the stakeholders in workshops processes and policies are developed and put into practice.
Change Management:
Organizations embark on change journey either proactively or reactively. In either case, BKMS can help diagnose and assess the current status and help define the desired status. BKMS consultants will help the client leaders to arrive at change strategies and actions including benefits management.
Some Examples:
1
Formation of three Societies for a newly formed State Government
The State wanted to form three Societies to focus on specific areas like innovation, electronics & IT and e-Governance. These were to function independently and drive growth in the respective sectors to serve the people of the State. BKM held a series of discussions with stake holders cutting across academia, government and professional bodies. Ideas on the strategies and structure were worked out. Specific organization charts were drawn. Individual roles and responsibilities were defined along with other Human Resources policies. The State government rolled out these as part of their developmental effort.
2
Organizational Culture Building
A mid-size IT products company was in its high growth path. They wanted their organization to build entrepreneurial culture and develop products for the niche market they serve. The program was designed by B Krishnamurthy in consultation with the top management and key stake holders of the organization. The workshop was conducted – which involved pre-program assessment, workshop and action planning for cultural change. The participants were the senior managers of the organization. In addition to workshop sessions, a follow-up one-on-one sessions with each of the participants of the program were conducted. This was to ensure that each one of them took some actions to implement as part of the learning and report it to the management.
3
Aligning the Employees to a New Culture
A State-Owned enterprise involved in managing the Ports was undergoing structural change due to the consolidation exercise undertaken by the State. It required its senior managers to be aware of the implications of change and be ready to undertake it while working as change agents of change for its employees. After deliberations with the relevant leaders, specific offsite workshop was organized. BKM conducted the workshop that covered aspects of change and its management. All the participants left the workshop with action agenda individually and for each of their teams. These were tracked for completion by the Director’s office.
